In physics, the flexibility law receives the name of Hooke law, owing to the english physicist Robert Hooke, contemporary of Isaac Newton.
This play receives its name from the famous anagram with which Hooke published this law, fearing that someone may appropriate his discovery. He revealed its content some years later.
The anagram means: Ut tensio sic vis, and can be translated as: force is proportional to extension. The same force where this character is in when he hangs on an elastic cord.
